Piggy Killer refuses $100,000 offer from Nigma Galaxy for their Division I slot
According to Liu “Sylar” Jiajun on his live stream, Nigma Galaxy, backed by Etihad Airways, wanted to purchase Piggy Killer’s Division I slot in the Chinese DPC region. The trade for their Division I slot was rumored to be $100,000.
A $100,000 deal is a very reasonable offer from Nigma Galaxy, as Division I teams who fail to qualify for the Majors will still receive anywhere from $22,000 to $25,000 in prize pools. Piggy Killer aren’t a Major contending team, so they would be making around four times the amount they would make from finishing 5th to 8th in the DPC Tours.
The reason for declining the offer is that one or two of Piggy Killer’s players were afraid they might be giving a Chinese TI slot to a foreign team. By declining the offer, Piggy Killer are allowing the potential of another Chinese team to represent the country for the most prominent esports tournament of the year.
Nigma Galaxy are looking to purchase a Division I slot as they were recently relegated back to Division II in the Spring Tour after finishing 8th place. The team announced significant changes after the departure of ATF and SumaiL, bringing Mikey and Yuma in their place. Nigma were looking to try out their new roster by taking a shortcut to Division I. It looks like money can’t buy everything.
Community members wondered why Nigma Galaxy didn’t offer to buy a slot from weaker regions, such as North and South America, which they could have gotten for a much lower price. Others are making jokes about Nigma wanting to chase after SumaiL in China. What are your thoughts on this news?
